It is probable that the Lenni Lenape, the American Indians of the region, knew of and used the Dickerson Mine, located in what is now Randolph Township, Morris County, New Jersey. John Reading, however, discovered what became known as Suckasunny Mine in 1715 and sold it the following year to Joseph Kirkbride. Mahlon Dickerson (April 17, 1770 - October 5, 1853) was an American judge and politician. He was elected Governor of New Jersey as well as United States Senator from that state.
